I am having the problem connecting the local as well as remote server using SQL Server management studio 2005. I just enter the server name, Login , password and hit the connect button, It just hangs forever and I am staring at the computer screen waiting to connect server. But no luck and eventhough I can’t cancel the operation. All I have to do is just kill SQLWEB.exe process. I also reinstalled sql server 2005 but the same problem persist.
But luckily I found the solution. Here is the solution.
1) Check your application data folder (c:documents and settings\application data. In my case somehow I had marked that folder as a hidden. Make sure it must not be hidden bcoz management studio could no longer find its configuration files. The application data files I am referring to are the data/configuration files created in one of the standard Windows directories by third party applications, like management studio. So once I fixed that, management studio started to work again.
2) Make sure that C:Documents and Settings\Application DataMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsShellmru.dat file is exist on your computer.
